Piona Abbey

About 3 km away from Colico, a side road leads to Piona abbey, a Cistercian abbey with a wonderful view over the lake.

The Cistercian monks, following the Benedictine rule ‘ora et labora’ (work and pray), produce by themselves what it is needed for the community and sell products such as herbal remedies, cosmetic creams, teas, honey and liquor to the visitors.

The interior parts of the abbey are open to the public and include the church, the cloister and the capitular hall. Another reason to visit Piona abbey is the incomparable panoramic view over the lake, with the villages of Domaso and Gravedona on the background.
